This week feels like it’s been incredibly long and stressful. And I guess, in the land of adulting that’s just how things go. Work has, for the most part, been fantastic and the new responsibilities while time consuming and a little bit scary are kind of exciting.

And now! Books!

Books I’ve read:

Lost in the Reflecting Pool by Diane Pomerantz is a memoir reflecting over the life of a woman who is in an extremely abusive relationship, which she eventually learns wile in the midst of treatment for her cancer. This isn’t the sort of book I’d recommend lightly or to very many people due to the extremely sensitive nature of the topic. But it was well-written and certainly a worthwhile insight into the struggles this woman had to face. I’m glad I read it, though admittedly the book left me feeling rather awful afterward, having experienced mental abuse as well. It’s a good book, a truthful book, but one that should be read cautiously. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Everless by Sara Holland was not as good as I had hoped it would be. I had a lot of problems with it in the end, a lot them centered around cardboard ideas and characters that have been done time and time again as well as the most annoying and uncomfortable romances ever in books existence. I’m currently not even sure if it deserves four stars, but I chose this rating in part due to the fact that the ending was actually somewhat clever, despite the foreshadowing being minimal and paltry at best. Holland’s novel needs a lot of work, but it’s not majorly terrible either. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The Gender Secret by Bella Forrest let me down so much. I don’t even know if I can waste my time on another of the books in this series, of which there are apparently seven! That alone is baffling because I can’t fathom how one could split this book into seven parts. And then there’s the fact that it’s just awful. The characters suck. They’re almost impossible to connect with. And every single damn time the author has a chance to attack the gender extremes and stereotypes that a book like this should be doing, she doesn’t! Which is not only extremely disappointing, but it’s also just unacceptable. I want to kill the romance in this book for how much it nullifies strong women. Kill it with fire. And I nstead of feeling sorry and apathetic toward Viggo as I did in the first book, I quickly grew to hate him immensely. Not only is he vastly unrealistic, but he’s also fucking annoying. And don’t even get me started on the innner thought monologues that somehow seem to happen when the characters are in danger. I just can’t. 🌟🌟

Simon vs. the Homo Sapien’s Agenda by Becky Albertalii is a wonderful story that needs to be shared. I’m so glad that this book exists and admittedly I did only pick it up because I saw the movie trailer. I ended up watching the movie first, though I had read about halfway through the book prior to seeing the film. I have to admit, I liked the movie more. But even with that, this book is pretty amazing. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo by Marlon Bundo and Jill Twiss needs to be read and owned by everyone. I can’t help laughing and laughing every time I read an article about this book. I’m in love with it and I intend to share it with everyone. If you’re looking for a review, just visit the link posted below. Trust me, this book is a must have for your bookshelf. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Last minute thoughts:

March For Our Lives was this weekend and I hope all of you went to your local event, as I did. Change is happening and we all have a chance to be a part of it, to make the world better and safer. The March is ultimately why I’m a day late in posting this.
