It’s Thursday which means it’s time to feature a book from the past! For this Throwback Thursday, the book featured is the first book read in 2017 and for me this was A Whole New World by Liz Braswell. I was incredibly excited about this book when I first saw it in Barnes and Noble around Christmastime of 2016. And so naturally I couldn’t help myself, I bought it. Braswell writes twisted fairy tales, which basically translates into her taking one of the Disney movies and twisting some sort of plot feature around to change the story. For example, this one operates as though Aladdin never got the lamp.
I’d definitely say the book has its flaws, but it’s enjoyable if you’re a fan of the film. The characters are generally written well, though there are some differences for sure. I think, ultimately, the ending was quite strange and I wasn’t exactly a fan of Braswell’s version of Jafar or the strange things that he did which seemed so out of character and it was a little disheartening not to have the relationship between Aladdin and the Genie.
However, it was a pretty fun read at the end of the day and ultimately led me to pick up a few of Braswell’s other works, of which I personally think her Beauty and the Beast rendition is the best. You can read my full review for A Whole New World if you like!
As always, happy reading to you all!

They are. Not what you’d expect, though. I think they stray a bit too much to reach their full potential, unfortunately.
