ransackerI’m really not sure about Ransacker by Emmy Laybourne. On the one hand, it sounds like it could be a really wonderful and interesting story but on the other it sounds like it’s going to have a love triangle. And, that would be fine, of course in specific situations…but both men presented as potential love interests appear to have motivations to attempt to use her for their own personal gains which is not something that sits right with me. And if I have massive problems with that sort of love interest, it is one hundred percent going to destroy any chance of my liking the story. But, at the same time, maybe only one of them has that goal and the other turns out not to and she’ll end up with the better guy. And so a part of me just wants to read it to find out.

The main character of this story is Sissel, a young girl with the power to find and draw precious metals from the earth. For those who want to control the flow of money or who own the mines, this is a power that they will want desperately to have full access to. It is no wonder that Sissel wants to keep this a secret from those around her and not surprising in the least that, should others learn about it, she and her family will be in grave danger. I think, ultimately, I can’t really help myself from adding it to my TBR. But I don’t know if I’ll love it or not yet. Oh! And apparently it’s a sequel, so there’s another book I’ll have to pick up first.

Is this book on your TBR? Have you read the previous novel? If so, how was it? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Having the love interest be a problem is also a deal-breaker for me; it just ruins the whole story. I haven’t read it, but it does sound intriguing overall!
