Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
I am living for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday. How could I not, honestly? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve imagined being in the life of a character and it’s probably one of the most exciting things in the world. Who wouldn’t want to picture themselves in the role of a character who lives an exceedingly exciting life? And if you’ve been around for a while, I bet you could imagine who I’d want to swap with for a bit with no problem.
10. Louna — Once and For All
I adore Sarah Dessen novels and would honestly love to live in one. Of course, the one I want to live in has to be one of the best without any of the unfortunate events of life since some of her books do touch on those sorts of things. But I really like the story that Louna had in Once and For All, so I definitely wouldn’t mind if I shared her life.
9. Winnie Foster — Tuck Everlasting
I have, for the longest time, had an idea of how I would have made the decision that Winifred Foster had to make at the end of Tuck Everlasting. Not to give anything away, but I definitely wouldn’t have gone with the choice she did. Maybe that speaks to some sort of problem within me, but I couldn’t have given up on that. And I think it’s more about the love than it is about living.
8. Etta Spencer — Passenger
I just love the time travel and the journey that Etta goes through. Of course, there are definitely pieces to her story that I wouldn’t want to have to go through, but I genuinely do feel as though the experience she went through was a thoroughly amazing one. And to have the opportunity to travel through time and save the world is something I can’t help loving.
7. Hiccup — How to Train Your Dragon
Okay, I’ll be honest, I imagine the movie far more than I do the book–the movie was way better–but even so I would have loved to trade places with Hiccup when he was getting to know Toothless and how their relationship really blossomed into something beautiful and amazing. Plus, the opportunity to ride a dragon is one that I can’t help desperately wanting the chance to experience. It’s a shame they aren’t real.
6. Hermione Granger — Harry Potter Series
I think this is more due to the idea of attending school at Hogwarts and learning magic–and being incredibly invested in the learning process. Plus, I’m pretty sure of everyone in that world, Hermione is the one I’m most like. And at the end of the day, going to Hogwarts is something I imagine a great many of us have wanted at some point or another.
5. Elizabeth (Zizi) Kamenzki — The Enchanted Sonata
This is the second person from The Enchanted Sonata that I would like to swap with (and also somewhat ironic because I genuinely cannot stand the name Elizabeth), both of them included because I couldn’t decide which one would be more amazing to get a chance to live the life of. I’ve said in the past that I would love to visit the candy emporium from this book and so it stands to reason that I would really enjoy working there–not to mention the fact that the people working there are the ones who spearheaded saving the city, Zizi herself playing a rather large role.
4. Clara Stahlbaum — The Enchanted Sonata
I would love the opportunity to swap places with Clara Stahlbaum for a number of reasons, the main one ironically being her skills with the piano. I’ve always wanted to play and never learned, so the thought of being that skilled at it is just a wonderful one. Plus, she gets to journey to Krystallgrad and who wouldn’t want to be able to do that? Even with the rats, it sounds amazing.
3. Wendy Darling — Peter Pan
One word. Neverland. And since I’ve been in love with Peter Pan for an incredibly long time, I can’t imagine a better character to swap places with for a while. I would love to have had the opportunity to be Wendy, to have been whisked away by Pan, and brought on such an amazing adventure. I’m not sure if I would have made the same decision as Wendy did, but I’m definitely leaning that way as I wouldn’t want to remain a child forever. With that said, though, it would probably break my heart.
2. Deryn Sharp or Prince Aleksandar — The Leviathan Series
I love everything about this series and while I’m honestly in love with Deryn Sharp, my personality fits that of Prince Aleksandar much better. And, unquestionably, my boyfriend fits the personality of Deryn, though he’d probably curse quite a bit less than she does. And I think it just comes down to realism, but then again I might have a lot more fun as Deryn. So, who knows. I’d probably switch with either one.
1. Crescent Darnell — The Lunar Chronicles
And, finally, at the end of the day there is no one I would rather swap places with than Crescent Darnell because she is me in so many ways. The initial naivete, the imaginations in order to get through rough situations, the falling in love with Carswell Thorne, the determination to do what’s right despite being terrified. I see so much of myself in her that it’s insane so, in another world, I could very well have been her without question.
I had a lot of fun with this one. Though some of them were harder than others, it’s still a brilliantly enjoyable activity. As readers, we tend to imagine ourselves in all sorts of situations and while not all of them are the sort we’d want, we can definitely enjoy seeing ourselves in the characters and the worlds we read about every day.
