I’ve actually already read The Blood Spell by C. J. Redwine. I ended up requesting it back in September and was excited to learn that I’d been approved. I’ve always been quite a sucker for Ciinderella retellings and so Redwine’s version was impossible to pass up. The story kind of mixed a lot of different ideas together and while the majority of it worked well, I’m fairly certain that the author bit off a bit more than she could chew. While not the best retelling I’ve come across, it was still uniquely impressive. Of course, I didn’t love everything.
The Blood Spell naturally has a Cinderella subplot, but the bulk of the story is centered around the disappearances of children and outlawed magic as a result of an evil witch who’d been locked away in the forest. I definitely feel as though the villain of the story is incredibly obvious and even the twist behind the villain was easily predictable for me. But perhaps it will be an exciting twist for you.
Since this is a rare case in which I’ve already reviewed the book coming out, feel free to check out my review for it if you want to hear more.
