I had a dream, I think about three years ago, in which Arya somehow killed the Night King. I’m sure it was inspired, somewhat, by a theory I had come across and read regarding this very event (though, come on, did you all seriously think she’d infiltrate with a white walker’s face? I can’t even with how ridiculous I found that theory). The way it happened was interesting, but had involved Arya’s death in the end. And to tell you the truth, I don’t really remember it all that well. But I can say that the show was infinitely more epic than the dream my mind somehow concocted. I cannot think of anyone better in the entire show for this amazing feat and, in truth, I always imagined it would be Jon or Arya to end it. Already, I want to rewatch it. What a shame I had to work today.

I watched episode three of this season’s Game of Thrones with a group of close friends. The degree of excited screaming that ensued the moment that Arya dropped her dagger only to clutch it with her other hand and thrust it forward into the Night King’s chest is impossible to fully describe, but we were ecstatic. And though I think many of us can say, without question, that we were able to predict what Arya was doing and what would come at the end of the episode after her conversation with Melisandre, it did not take away from how epic that ending truly was.

I have to admit, I’m rather proud of myself and one of the friends with whom I was watching the show because, at about the halfway point of the episode we called it that the Night King would be vanquished. And I think, if one actually sits down to ponder the idea, this fact becomes fairly obvious. With how much everyone was pushed back into Winterfell and the sheer number of wights falling forward to destroy the living, there is really no feasible way that you could see any of these characters surviving enough to go to King’s Landing at any point unless the Night King is defeated. So, unless the show were to be entirely about everyone dying and the white walkers continuing on to destroy the living in the South (which would be a dumb plot), he would have to die at some point within the episode.

I don’t really have a lot of predictions going forward for the show, I think largely because of how episode three ended. And this is not because I don’t have the ability to deduce and determine based on the information provided, but rather because I am exhausted. And, at the end of the day, I am also incredibly satisfied. I think, no matter how it turns out in the end or who dies and lives, I will leave this show satisfied. I imagine my emotions and exhaustion will change later on and I’ll likely have a few predictions and ideas, but for now this is what I’m left with.

That episode was everything I needed, wanted, expected and more. Much, much more. I don’t really think I could have asked for better. And while several of the deaths were rather emotional for me, I have to admit that I’m a little surprised more people I cared about didn’t die. I suppose they have more purpose to fulfill before then.
