It’s Thursday again and I’m back with another book, this one a story that I read all the way back in 2017 and did not like. Blasphemy, right? I know so many people enjoyed this book, but I simply couldn’t bring myself to. It kind of took an idea that I was in love with and failed miserably at it. You see, I’m rather attached to the Goblin King and the story told in the Jim Henson film The Labyrinth. So it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that I had pretty high expectations for this book.

And it’s no surprise that none of them were really met at all.

Wintersong is the story of a young girl who is lured by the Goblin King partially as a result of their having had a friendship as children but also to save her rather rambunctious sister whom he has taken. You see the Labyrinth parallels right away, though it has a unique take with some musical elements that weren’t really in the film (aside from David Bowie’s amazing singing, of course). And this definitely is a novel all on its own, so I give it points for the unique take.

I never read the sequel and generally don’t have any real intention to, so my thoughts on the matter of this book will likely remain thus.
