Comfort Zone Tag; I Like it Here, Don’t Make Me Leave

I can’t quite remember where I got this tag from, but this is one of the fairly common ones that I’ve seen floating around for quite some time now. Not tagging anyone, but if anyone feels up to doing it definitely go right ahead!

RULES

Just the one! You have to pick ONE GENRE that you frequently read… and then you can’t use ANY books from that genre while answering the questions!

And this is where you have me wondering if I have to use YA as a genre? Cause I mean…honestly…it was always a genre to me. But, thankfully, according to everyone else it’s not a genre. So, in this case I will go with fantasy.

the shadow of the wind

I really don’t like horror and so that definitely blends over into gothic horror. But something about The Shadow of the Wind really got to me in an amazing way that prompted me to not only read and enjoy the entire book, but to reread it over and over again and even to read the other books in the series. It’s pretty impressive, as far as I’m concerned.

I definitely feel a lot of stigma against romance novels. I largely hate them and have generally found their plots disappointing and lacking. I’m also not the kind of person who’s interested in reading sex scenes, so that’s another reason why I tend to avoid this genre, though I will say that I don’t find anything wrong with them or think that sex should be expunged from novels. I just don’t care to read it and, generally, am very tempted to skip them. They don’t add much to a book for me. But this book had a phenomenal plot and very minimal sex, so I loved it.

Ironically, I was pretty convinced that this was a book that I’d find mediocre; it was everything but. Still, I was immensely shocked by the level of graphic nature that the first couple of pages portrayed, comparing sex and murder in such an intricate and fascinating way. Actually…I’ve just realized (via Goodreads search) that this book is apparently classified as fantasy. >.< Hang on while I find a different one.

I mean, I don’t typically read about aliens. And I cannot for the life of me recall what prompted me to read this book, but I know it wasn’t the aliens bit.

I mean, it just sounds really cool as far as novels go. And while it’s definitely not something I would typically read, there’s enough to it that catches my interest that makes me willing to put aside the fact that I don’t usually read books with central focuses on murder.
