With everything that’s going on in the world today, I find myself thinking back to my favorite book series. The Lunar Chronicles features a plague, one that has been around for a long period of time. I think, at first, my initial reaction was that the response to a pandemic seemed so different. I mean, no one in New Beijing was hoarding toilet paper, were they?
But now that the initial panic has died down, barring the fact that we are currently confined to our homes–though fortunately we still have books!–it’s really not all that different.
I’ve been thinking about The Lunar Chronicles a lot lately with what’s been going on. You’d think it would be the last book I’d want to read at a time like this, considering. But, truthfully, it remains my favorite book series and since the characters take such a leading role to the plague that is occurring, it honestly hasn’t affected me at all. I love this book as much as ever and have even had the opportunity to introduce it to a student, with Cinder becoming basically the first book she was ever excited to read.
The series that jumpstarted my own WIP recently have all been newly released with different covers and so, if you’ve found yourself with free time all of a sudden and are looking for something to read, look no further. I got you.
Sixteen-year-old Cinder is considered a technological mistake by most of society and a burden by her stepmother.
