my pet slimeMy Pet Slime by Courtney Sheinmel and illustrated by Renée Kurilla is an absolutely adorable middlegrade novel about a young girl who is allergic to animals but still desperately wants a pet. All of her friends have pets of their own and it seems so unfair that she cannot have any herself. And so, master slime-maker that she is, young Piper decides to make a pet for herself – out of slime! If only the little purple slime creature she made were actually real.

If you’re looking for a simple and deeply sweet book to read to your kids, this one is a fantastic option. Not only is the story itself great, but it’s punctuated with some of the cutest artwork I have ever seen. When Piper’s pet slime comes to life, the little creature she calls Cosmo gets up to all sorts of mischief as she adjusts to her new life with a real pet!

This book is exceptionally cute and so much fun that my niece very quickly became a huge fan. And honestly, this is pretty impressive considering the fact that my mother and sister can’t really get her to sit long enough to listen to almost any story. I can definitely see myself buying this book for some of my students in the future, too, which is an added plus.

All in all, I’m pretty fond of this one.

I was provided a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
