Honestly, I was pretty sure the first time I saw The Betrothed Kiera Cass that I was not going to read it. Despite kind of enjoying the first of her The Selection series, I ended up absolutely hating everything about it once America decided she “loved” Maxon out of nowhere, I just kind of…couldn’t stand the series.

And I don’t know…it’s been a long time since I read it, so I can’t remember everything else that I hated. But that was a big part of it. Honestly, love triangles can really ruin things sometimes.

With that said, I’m oddly taken in by the love triangle in this one? And, sure, maybe I’ll end up hating The Betrothed as well, but I figured that one series isn’t enough for me to decide an author’s novels aren’t worth reading so perhaps its time that I gave Cass another try.

the betrothedWhen King Jameson declares his love for Lady Hollis Brite, Hollis is shocked—and thrilled. After all, she’s grown up at Keresken Castle, vying for the king’s attention alongside other daughters of the nobility. Capturing his heart is a dream come true.

But Hollis soon realizes that falling in love with a king and being crowned queen may not be the happily ever after she thought it would be. And when she meets a commoner with the mysterious power to see right into her heart, she finds that the future she really wants is one that she never thought to imagine.
