Happy book birthday to The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta! I guess this is kind of a second book birthday since it looks like this book was also published in 2019 (either that or Goodreads is lying to me). But honestly, this book deserves two birthdays anyway. A story about a young boy finding himself through his drag artwork, you can bet that I’m happy to see this one getting published.

the black flamingoI masquerade in makeup and feathers and I am applauded.

A boy comes to terms with his identity as a mixed-race gay teen - then at university he finds his wings as a drag artist, The Black Flamingo. A bold story about the power of embracing your uniqueness. Sometimes, we need to take charge, to stand up wearing pink feathers - to show ourselves to the world in bold colour.
