For anyone who has ever looked into Goodreads Giveaways, they know that this can be a place to win a wide variety of books, whether it’s an ARC, a kindle copy, a signed edition, or just a typical book. For me, back when I was consistently entering Goodreads Giveaways, it was a place where I have gotten exactly 100 free books. Now, with that said, the majority of those books are Kindle Copies, but a good 20% of them were actual physical copies, several of which were ARCs. So, let me break it all down for you.
What is a Goodreads Giveaway?
This is basically just a place where you can easily enter to win free books. It doesn’t require much; you don’t have to donate anything, you don’t have to post anything, you don’t have to click a lot of buttons. You merely select your address–auto-populated once you’ve entered it once–agree to the terms and hit enter. Simple. Again, these books can be ARCs, signed copies, physical books, or e-books.
How can I maximize my chances of winning?
Well, the biggest truth you’ll have to face about Goodreads Giveaways is the fact that a lot of people enter. And with that as a truth, the chances of you winning them are quite unlikely, especially if only one copy is being offered in the Giveaway. A good thing to note is that the books where 10+ books are available to win have a higher chance of you winning one than others. This is why, with Kindle copies often offering 100 copies for you to win, chances of winning a Kindle copy is quite high (it’s why I’ve won so many). But, overall, you generally want the books with the highest number of books to win and the lowest number of entries.
Why can’t I win the books I’m most excited about?
This is an unfortunate truth that we all kind of have to face when it comes to Goodreads Giveaways. Simply entering the giveaways for books you desperately want or only entering when you get a notification like the one pictured above is not very likely to win you a lot of books. You might get lucky, but chances are you’re probably not going to get much out of it. The best way to win books from Goodreads is to visit it every night. You see, that’s when the newest giveaways are listed.
I used to make it part of my bedtime routine. Brush my teeth, get a glass of water, put on pajamas, and enter Goodreads Giveaways.
What’s the best way to enter?
I entered giveaways for any book that sounded even mildly interesting. Whenever it was an ARC or a signed copy, I was even more interested. I managed to get an ARC of Smothered this way, though I wasn’t immensely excited to read it. I got a copy of Tess of the Road and When Katie Met Cassidy. Ultimately, what it comes down to is consistently entering the Giveaways. There are several books that will be re-listed over and over again. I can’t tell you how many times I saw Rosemarked on there, but it was excessive. And I had a bunch of chances to enter that giveaway.
But the fact of the matter is that the more giveaways you enter, the more of a chance you have of winning some. If you’re entering more giveaways each night, the more likely it is that you’ll get a book or two that you really want. If you’re not consistent, well…that’s probably playing a part in why you’ve not won anything yet.
