I probably could’ve chosen a number of first lines for this one that I’ve been impressed with over the years, but I wanted one that I could take a picture of, and thus here I am introducing The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zaffon. I’ve loved this book for a long time and I’ve never really been able to discern if it’s a very well known one or not. It’s been quoted on blogs a fair number of times, I think, if I remember my tumblr days well enough.
I’ve always been overly fond of how quotable this book is, and the first line in it is no exception.
“I still remember the day my father took me to the
Cemetery of Forgotten Books for the first time.”

I love Carlos Ruiz Zafon! I bought The Angel’s Game years ago as part of a buy one get one half price just an inpulse buy and I’ve been a fan ever since. His writing is just so amazing. I want to reread them all but so many books. I’ll have to do a post about my favourite books one day just so I can talk about these books
Please do post about them!
Zafon is such a wonderful writer. I’m eternally attached to The Shadow of the Wind since it was the first one I read of his (and who can resist all the beautiful descriptions about the Cemetery?) but I remember how utterly thrilled I was when I read The Angel’s Game because of how amazing it was. He never fails to tell a thoroughly imaginative and heartwrenching story.
Well said and yes, I will do a post one day about my favourite books I have so many to read and review right now that I need longer days 🙂
It’s so good! Have you read The Angel’s Game? It’s another really good book by him and they both just blew me away. I love his writing so much.
Ah I absolutely love this book and its first line!!
