Ugh, the blurb at the beginning of Ship of Smoke and Steel does not do a good job of selling this book. And that alone makes me vaguely worried that it’s not written well. Of course, that’s only if it was the author, Django Wexler, who wrote it. If not, they should probably put whoever summarized it on a different task. I’m not sure about this one, to be completely honest. But I really do like the cover and I don’t know about you, but I would personally love to see that one sitting on my shelf. The title is pretty amazing, too. In the end, I believe that the plot has a lot of potential even if it was described incredibly poorly in the synopsis. What appears to be a fantasy story involving magic, corrupt governments, and a sibling the main character will do anything to save I can definitely see where this story could go incredibly well.
So, I’m definitely looking to give this book a chance, though I do have my misgivings about it based on that paltry blurb. I really do think that the plot sounds amazing once you unpack the ideas behind the poorly described summary. I hope that the writing is well done so that the story I believe will be truly enjoyable to read is going to be well-done.
What are your thoughts on this book? Did you have the same problems with the summary that I did? Will you be adding it to your TBR? Maybe not? Let me know in the comments!
