I never read the first book for the series that Song of the Dead by Sarah Glenn Marsh is the sequel to, so I have to admit that the synopsis for this one was a little bit confusing. I don’t understand anything about this world, exactly, and the concept of the dead that was discussed doesn’t fully make sense. Are they zombies? Are they wraiths? Are they some sort of necromantically formed beings? I haven’t the faintest idea and it seems like they have a good role in this novel, which isn’t something you’d typically find? But, really, I don’t know…and I don’t know if I care. And then there’s something about a weapon that could potentially make their kingdom invincible from the oncoming attacks; I’m frankly not quite sure who is attacking them, though.
All in all, I just couldn’t find enough about this story to keep my attention enough that I would actually want to read it. I don’t feel interested in the characters or in the world. And though the piece about the dead sounds unique, I’ve rarely ever been a fan of zombie creatures or supernatural ghost type things. So, this particular book is not going to find a spot on my TBR.
What are your thoughts on this book? Is the synopsis less confusing for you? Have any of you read the first book? Was it good? Let me know in the comments!
