the ceruleanEverything about The Cerulean by Amy Ewing leaves me with a burning curiosity to know more. I love this idea of a city in the clouds and I’ve loved it for years. I’ve pretty much picked up every book and watched every movie that I’ve come across with this theme, so you bet I’m excited for The Cerulean and I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy. Also, I just have to comment before I go on any further…doesn’t the author have basically the perfect last name for this novel? I hope it’s her real name and not a penname because it’s really quite brilliant.

The Cerulean’s plot centers around a world in which the cloud city becomes tethered to specific planets and the only way in which the city can move on to the next planet is to sacrifice someone in order to remove the tether. To save the city, main character Sera is expected to jump off the edge to her death, completely damages her worldview when she is chosen as the sacrifice. But the only problem is that, when she jumps, Sera doesn’t end up dying and therefore her sacrifice is incomplete.

I think there’s really no question about the fact that this book has found a spot on my TBR. I’m really looking forward to reading it as well as seeing how Sera handles the fact that her world betrayed her while simultaneously trying to save it. What do you think of this book so far? Is it one you’ll want to read? Do you think you’ll pass on it? Let me know in the comments!
