Confession: I haven’t read The Cruel Prince. And I’m not sure if I’m going to. So, ultimately, it’s really hard to say whether I’d read The Wicked King or not. I don’t really care for “fae” involved stories. For some reason, I never have. I can’t really explain it. Time and time again I’ve heard how brilliant The Cruel Prince was and I just never could find myself to develop much interest in it. I think, sadly, the name had something to do with it. Now, I don’t have anything, really, against Holly Black. I’ve heard she’s a great author and as I haven’t read anything by her, I can’t agree or disagree.
But her name gets mixed with Cassandra Clare’s a lot. And I happen to have huge problems with Cassandra Clare for being a terrible human being. I know I’ve mentioned it a few times here on this blog. So, ultimately, there’re two things about this book series that just don’t inspire a lot of interest in reading it for me. It’s not that I’m making any efforts not to read her book, I just don’t care to go out of my way.
And that’s the thing, in the long run, I suppose.
If it ever happens that I have massively easy access to The Cruel Prince, maybe I’ll change my mind and go ahead and read The Wicked King. But until then, it’s very likely I’ll set these books aside for ones that I’m actually exceptionally excited to read. There are too many books out there waiting to be picked up for me to bother with ones that I’m not even excited about.
Though I will say, I am excited for all the fans of this series who now get to read the sequel! Frankly, there’s not much else in the world that’s better than returning to the universe of a book you truly fell in love with. And so, happy reading!
